Microsoft’s just revealed it blocked more than 35.7 billion malicious emails last year.
That’s about 1,000 emails every single second, can you even imagine that?!
Microsoft also reported it foiled 9.6 billion attempted malware attacks. For those of you that are unsure what this means, it’s where cyber criminals try to fool you into clicking a link that installs malicious software on your device or network.
They also reportedly blocked 25.6 billion attempts at getting into accounts by simply guessing the login details. These are called brute force attacks and the numbers are astronomical!
Microsoft stated attackers still use these simple tactics because not enough businesses take their security seriously.
So how seriously do you take IT security in your business?
There are many protections available, and if used correctly will stop almost all attacks in their tracks. There are some really simple steps you can take to keep your business safe. The simplest is to introduce multi-factor authentication for all accounts your staff use.
This is where you generate or receive a code on another device, normally your smart phone. It’s very effective at making sure only the right people access the right accounts, as even if a hacker knew your username and password, they wouldn’t be able to get into your account as they wouldn’t be able to generate the secondary code needed.
We strongly recommend setting up multi-factor authentication for all of your accounts that support, and to enforce a complex password policy within your business. Just doing these two things will make life much harder for hackers.
