Tech update 5th September 2022
There is a new cyber security scam hitting our area and you wouldn’t believe what the scammers have dreamt up! It’s very noughties (the decade, not the scammers!) … but people are sadly falling for it.
Some criminals are sending a USB drive in the post, direct to businesses offices.
The USB stick looks like it’s from Microsoft, with an updated version of Office. Even the packaging is convincing.
But actually, the drive is full of malware, that can do enormous damage to your computer systems.
If you, or your staff plug it in, the software tries to trick you into calling a fake support line.
The people at the other end will work very hard to persuade you to hand over your bank details to pay for this updated version. And once they have your card details, they will go on a spending spree like you would not believe.
Some of the malware on the memory stick will also capture all of the usernames and passwords you type in, so even if you’re clever enough not to pass on your card details, they will still be able to access anything you do online.
No-one in your business would fall for that… would they?
It’s best to play it safe and warn everyone about this scam.
Perhaps it’s also a good time to review the software and staff training you use to protect your business.
You need the right combination of the two to beef up your cyber defences… we can help with that. Get in touch.
