3 easy upgrades to improve your video call setup

We all had to get used to using webcams and making video calls during Lockdown. It appears that hybrid working’s here to stay, so video calls will not be going away.

Do you think it might be time to improve your setup? This may mean both in the office and at home.

Sounds stressful? Don’t worry. You don’t need to spend thousands of pounds or buy lots of new equipment. To save your sanity, here are three easy upgrades to improve your video call setup.

Firstly, let’s start with your webcam. Are you using the camera in your laptop? These are OK, but a separate camera should make you look better, but we can’t promise 😊

Picture quality is all about the number of pixels – the more, the better. Go for Full HD, which is 1080p. Or better still a 4k camera. For you non-technical people, 1080p is the same definition as a high def TV, and 4k is higher than that.

Next, think about your sound. It’s the most overlooked part of most video calls.

If you work somewhere noisy a headset with a mic would be a great investment. For a quiet home office get yourself a decent USB desk microphone, but you may prefer to wear a headset. I know, I do.

Finally, think about your lighting. Natural light is best if you can face a window (as long as you’re not squinting). If not, consider buying a ring light so your face is always well lit. Or even better, two LED lights to brighten the whole scene.

Oh – and if you don’t want too many new accessories – you can get a webcam with a built-in microphone and light. Everything in one gadget – perfect!

Just pick a convenient date and pop your details in on the form to arrange a no obligation phone call with myself, Louise.
