An easy way to block 80% of known Cyber Attacks

What if I were to tell you there was an easy way to protect your business against 80% of the most common cyber-attacks?  Well, there is, and it’s called Cyber Essentials.

I’m sure you have all heard of Cyber Essentials over the years, as it has been around for quite a while now.  So, what is it?

Well essentially it is a framework that sets out good working practices for your business to help keep it safe.  There are two levels of Cyber Essentials, the first is a questionnaire that you will need to fill in online.  It will ask you a range of questions to highlight potential weaknesses within your current setup.  You will need some technical assistance as some of the questions are quite involved.

The second level is Cyber Essentials Plus, this includes the questionnaire but also an on-site visit for verification and a penetration test being performed against your businesses.

If you do not already have Cyber Essentials then the chances are you would most likely need to make some improvements either to your IT systems setup or your procedures to start off with.  But once you have the correct framework in place recertification becomes much easier.

The framework is reviewed regularly however, so what constitutes a pass this time, may not on your next annual review.

So why do you need Cyber Essentials?  Well simply put it helps to make your business much more secure against known cyber-attacks.  It also demonstrates to your customers and potential customers that you take data security seriously.  If you are also tendering for Government contracts, then you will need Cyber Essentials accreditation.
